How to Feel Hygge on a Windy Day

This entry is part 2 of 3 in the series On such a day Series

On a windy day, slow down your pace and limit your tasks. Wind is so powerful it will sap your energy so conserve it carefully. Listen to the direction the wind is blowing. Is it always blowing from one direction where you live or does it change frequently, creating a dizziness as it undulates? Consider where this wind came from before it got to you. Think of how many people are feeling this same wind, thinking the same thoughts about the wind that you are. If you are inside, watch the trees and plants outside and notice how the wind bends them but doesn’t snap them. The wind strengthens the tree trunks and branches over the years as they are repeatedly whipped about. Watch the leaves of the trees dance or even perhaps take flight to land somewhere far from you, when they at last light upon the ground. Look at the birds as they aerodynamically navigate this wind, some even gliding upon the wind, wings outstretched without flapping, to stay in flight. Imagine how that might feel, to lie upon the wind as it lifts you, holding you and be in awe at the wonder of the beauty of a bird upon the wind. If you are outside, face into the wind, close your eyes and feel it rush across your skin and through your hair, pressing your clothing against your body. Turn your back to the wind and feel your hair push forward against your head or face. Notice if this is a straight, strong wind or does it blow about in circles, encompassing you? Consider the many particles and seeds that the wind carries from place to place and how many things will never stay in the same place as the wind takes them on their unique journey.
